This week several Catalyst Maria parents and the school’s Director of Recruiting and Family-Community Partnerships Mr. Davis attended an INCS-sponsored Springfield trip to meet with elected individuals! The group had several productive conversations with elected officials regarding their support of charter schools and opposition to two anti-charter bills in the State House of Representatives. Pictured below are CM parents meeting with State Representative Andre Thapedi- great work by Ms. Shields, Mr. Davis, the INCS team and all parents in attendance!
Three Catalyst Maria High School Seniors-Andrea V., Crystal R., and Emiliano C. achieved the Illinois State Scholar Award this week! The State Scholar Program identifies graduating high school seniors who possess superior academic potential. Students from nearly every high school in Illinois compete in the program, and State Scholars can be found on the campuses of nearly 200 public and private institutions of higher education in Illinois. The combination of exemplary college entrance examination scores and record high school achievement indicate an especially high potential for success in college. To be honored as a State Scholar in Illinois is an outstanding accomplishment that will be a highlight of the recipient’s academic record- we are so proud of Andrea, Crystal and Emiliano!
Through the incredible work of innumerable staff members, scholars, families, community partners, the Sisters of St. Casimir, and more, Catalyst Maria received a five-year renewal (the full, longest term currently awarded) to the Chicago Board of Education! Many, many thanks to all that have contributed to this school community in any way, and we look forward to serving our 1,100 Kindergarten-12th Grade scholars, their families, and the Chicago Lawn community for many years to come!
Catalyst Maria High School team members Mrs. Mear and Ms. Doneske presented at the national World Class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA) conference in Philadelphia last week! Mrs. Mear and Ms. Doneske presented a 75-minute interactive workshop entitled “If They Don’t Understand How Can They Reach Me?” to a packed audience! The session included research based evidence and a comprehensive curriculum to build classroom culture supported by ESL and literacy strategies- great work Mrs. Mear (pictured below during the presentation) and Ms. Doneske!
